QuestionQuestion 7

Why rise in temperature of a conductor is accompained by a rise in the resistance?

Solution

When temperature of conductor rises then:
The kinetic energy of free electrons increases
The amplitude of vibration of atoms increases
The probability of collision between free electrons and atoms increases and atoms now offer bigger target. And due to frequent collisions the resistance of the conductor increases with temperature.
